What Is IFS Therapy? A Gentle, Transformational Approach to Healing
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a framework, a specific process, and a set of skills. It is a theory of how the mind works and a roadmap for how the mind can heal. IFS therapy helps people access the internal place where the mind functions like a well-oiled system. From that place, the person can build or rebuild a relationship with themselves that makes sense and actually works.
Understanding the Internal System of the Mind
IFS assumes that the mind is multiple. That it is composed of a Self and many different Parts. Parts are not symptoms, they are not problems. They are not bad or good, right or wrong. Parts are expressions of different roles and experiences. In IFS therapy, all Parts are welcome.
The Role of 'Self' in IFS Therapy
The Self is the internal state of leadership that has compassion, clarity, curiosity, and courage to understand all the different Parts. In IFS therapy, we are building an internal relationship between Self and Parts.
How IFS Therapy Creates Healing
IFS helps us make sense of ourselves by using a map that is intuitive, expansive, and respectful. It is a therapy that does not shame or ignore the complexity of being human. IFS therapy helps people get to know themselves in a way that works and transforms their lives from the inside out.
Who Is IFS Therapy For?
IFS is not just for people with diagnoses or deep trauma. It is for anyone who wants to build a relationship with themselves that can support healing, growth, and deeper connection.
